## What is Mariology?Mariology is the theological discipline that studies, in a systematic and in-depth manner, the person, mystery, and mission of Mary of Nazareth in the history of salvation. It is not a sentimental devotion nor an accumulation of pious traditions, but a rigorous theological science rooted in Sacred Scripture, Apostolic Tradition, and the Magisterium of the Church. The Latin expression that embodies the spirit of Mariology, *de Maria numquam satis*, summarizes this conviction: there is always more to contemplate, understand, and receive about Mary.## The Locus MariologicusThe Locus Mariologicus – International Center for Mariology was founded with the mission to promote the scientific study of Mary in the context of contemporary theology. We are an educational and research institution offering graduate programs, specialization courses, and academic resources of reference for students, professors, and researchers in Portuguese and other languages. Our conviction is that Mariology is not a peripheral discipline of theology but a *locus theologicus* (theological place) privileged: a space where God’s mystery reveals itself with special clarity through Mary’s *fiat*. It is in Mary that the Incarnation finds its point of human reception. It is in Mary that the Church contemplates its own vocation as virgin and mother. It is in Mary that the disciple learns what it means to say yes to God without reservation.## The Four Marian DogmasThe Church’s faith in Mary crystallized over centuries into four fundamental dogmas: Divine Maternity, proclaimed at the Council of Ephesus in 431, Perpetual Virginity, an integral part of apostolic faith, Immaculate Conception, defined by Pope Pius IX in 1854, and the Bodily Assumption of Mary to Heaven, proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in 1950. Each of these dogmas represents a milestone in the *communitas fidelium*’s (community of believers) long process of reflection on the mystery of Mary in the light of Revelation. The Locus Mariologicus devotes special attention to the historical and systematic study of these dogmas, providing the necessary theological tools to understand them in their depth.## Marian Apparitions and TheologyMarian apparitions are another central area of investigation within our academic program. While the Church does not impose belief in any private apparition, even in the most celebrated ones like Fatima, Lourdes, or Guadalupe, it recognizes them, when approved, as pastorally relevant signs for God’s people. The theologian studying Marian apparitions learns to distinguish between the revealed, unchanging, and normative element and the historical contingent form in which a particular message is inscribed. They also learn to read the signs of the times in the light of Mary, who, as Saint Bernard said, is the “*star of the sea*” on history’s journey.## Training and Research in Marian TheologyThe Locus Mariologicus offers a graduate program in Mariology and Marian Theology designed for those wishing to deepen this discipline with scientific rigor and a contemplative spirit. The program combines major sources from Tradition with recent contributions from international Mariological research. Our students find at the Locus Mariologicus a space for dialogue between theological science and spiritual life because Mariology is not merely a subject to study; it is a school of discipleship. The Locus Mariologicus regularly publishes research articles, organizes the International Mariology Symposium, and maintains a digital library in Portuguese on Marian Theology. Our commitment is to be, for the Church and academia, a meeting point between theological intelligence and authentic Marian devotion, always in service of *veritas* (truth) and guided by the spirit of *de Maria numquam satis*.
