**Gregory XIII (1572-1585)** is the pope immediately following Saint Pius V and the Battle of Lepanto. His Marian documents (nn. 171-175) consolidate the legislation on the Rosary and its universal diffusion. Gregory XIII grants immense spiritual privileges to members of the fraternity and exhorts the entire Christian world to pray the Rosary daily. Numbers 171-173 cover the original bull and two supplementary decrees on the affiliation of local confraternities to the mother fraternity in Rome.> **”When he himself, to implore God’s help for the victory of Christians in the battle of Lepanto, ordered the recitation of the Rosary, and believed that that victory should be attributed to the intercession of the Virgin Mother…”**## n. 174, Brief “Pastoris aeterni” (October 12, 1576) This brief grants a plenary indulgence to all members of the Rosary Confraternity who, on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (first Sunday in October), recite the complete Rosary and confess and receive Holy Communion. It is the first plenary indulgence specifically linked to the Rosary as a complete devotion.## n. 175, “Provisionis nostrae” (January 29, 1579) Gregory XIII expands the provisions regarding Rosary confraternities, regulating their canonical-legal organization. The Rosary Confraternity becomes one of the most organized and widespread apostolic movements of the Counter-Reformation, a precursor to modern Marian associations.**Historical Significance:** With Gregory XIII, the Rosary definitively transitions from a popular devotion within the Franciscan and Dominican orders to a universally promoted devotion by the papacy.
