Mary’s Fiat, the Yes That Changed History

A Free and Responsible Yes

Mary’s Fiat was not automatic: it was preceded by a dialogue, by a legitimate question (“How can this be?”), by a clarification. Only after hearing the Angel’s answer did Mary consent. This process shows that God does not avail Himself of the human being without his consent; Mary’s freedom was respected.

The Fiat as a Way of Life
