# The Salubrious Influence of Mary and the Unique Mediation of Christ

Our mediator is only one, according to the word of the Apostle: “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the unique Jesus Christ, who gave Himself up for the redemption of all” (1 Timothy 2:5-6). But Mary’s maternal role toward mankind in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ. Rather, it manifests its effectiveness. All of the Virgin Saint’s salvific influence on humanity is due to divine will and not out of necessity. It flows from the abundance of Christ’s merits, rests upon His mediation, and depends entirely upon it, drawing all its efficacy therefrom. It in no way hinders, but rather fosters, the immediate union of believers with Christ. (Light of the Peoples, 60)

To delve deeper into the study of Mary’s mediation in Christ, we recommend Pope John Paul II’s encyclical *Redemptoris Mater*.
