Dictionary Entry: Nossa Senhora de Banneux

Nossa Senhora de Banneux is one of the approved Marian apparitions recognized by the Church, which took place from January to March 1933 in Banneux, Belgium, to Mariette Beco, a 11-year-old girl from a poor family. Our Lady identified herself as “the Virgin of the Poor” and revealed a source of healing. For the full article: Nossa Senhora de Banneux.

The Eight Apparitions

From January 15 to March 2, 1933, Our Lady appeared eight times to Mariette. In each apparition, she led the young girl to a spring and spoke simple words: “This spring is reserved for Me,” “This spring is for all nations to alleviate the sick,” “I believe in God.”

Approval and Sanctuary

The Bishop of Liège approved the apparitions in 1949. The Banneux Sanctuary is now one of the major pilgrimage centers in Northern Europe, with a special focus on the sick and the poor. The message of Banneux is social: Our Lady comes to the aid of the suffering.Deepen your studies: Explore Mariology, Marian apparitions, Theological Marian, and a Postgraduate degree in Mariology.—
