Our Lady of Banneux: the Virgin of the Poor

Our Lady of Banneux is one of the Marian apparitions approved by the Church, which took place in January-March 1933 at Banneux (Belgium), to Mariette Beco, an 11-year-old girl from a poor family. Our Lady identified herself as “the Virgin of the Poor” and revealed a spring of healing. For the complete article: Our Lady of Banneux.

The eight apparitions

From January 15 to March 2, 1933, Our Lady appeared eight times to Mariette. In each apparition, she led the girl to a spring and spoke simple words: “This spring is reserved for me”, “This spring is for all nations, to relieve the sick”, “I believe in God.”

Approval and Shrine

The Bishop of Liège approved the apparitions in 1949. The Shrine of Banneux is today one of the principal pilgrimage centers of Northern Europe, with special attention to the sick and the poor. The message of Banneux is social: Our Lady comes to the aid of those who suffer.
